Newman University Names Tom Borrego Vice President for Advancement
Thomas (Tom) E. Borrego, Esq., has been named vice president for Institutional Advancement at Newman University. Borrego will officially join the institution Sept. 5. Since 1999, he has served as vice president of development for Presbyterian Manors of Mid-America, a system of 17 retirement communities located in Kansas and Missouri.
Borrego comes to Newman with more than 13 years experience in development and fundraising, with an additional five years experience in higher education. He'll serve as head of the Advancement Office which incorporates Alumni Relations, Fundraising/Development and University Relations.
Prior to joining Presbyterian Manors, Borrego served the Wichita State University Foundation as director of development and planned giving. At WSU, he raised funds to support the Barton School of Business, College of Health Professions, Ablah Library, and all planned gifts to the university. He has also been corporate campaign director for United Way of the Plains and annual campaign coordinator for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Sedgwick County.
Borrego's responsibilities have included all aspects of fundraising, including annual giving; special events; capital campaigns; major and planned giving; leadership development; strategic planning; fiscal planning; evaluation of philanthropy trends, and tax and estate planning. He is active in the community and has served on boards of directors for the Hispanic Senior Center and Senior Services, Inc. As a volunteer he has offered his service to the La Familia Senior Center, Southwest Boy's Club, Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity and the Lord's Diner.
Borrego is a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church where he has served as the chairperson of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic School Council, instructor for the Religious Education program, and sponsor for the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) program. He has also been a member of the Peace and Social Justice Committee, and girls basketball coach.
Borrego earned a juris doctorate degree from Washburn University School of Law in 1993. He also holds a bachelor of science degree from Wichita State University.
