Associate Director of Major Gifts - Eckerd College

The Associate Director of Major Gifts assists the Eckerd College Advancement team in sustaining and increasing financial and personal support of major gift donors through the identification, cultivation, and solicitation of prospective donors. Under the direction of the Associate Vice President for Development, the Associate Director of Major Gifts’ primary responsibilities include prospecting and soliciting major gift and planned gift prospects in assigned regions; proactively and strategically managing a major gift portfolio of approximately 150–200 prospects; and generating a high level of prospect contact (20 personal visits per month minimum). The candidate must possess excellent written and verbal skills and be a flexible and adaptable team player as well as a self-starter with a proven track record of gift negotiation and closure.

The Associate Director of Development at Eckerd College serves as the key person on the Advancement team for the Eckerd Annual Fund in the identification, strategic management, solicitation, cultivation and stewardship of Annual Giving prospects. Under the supervision of the Associate Vice President for Development, the Associate Director of Development’s primary responsibilities include: face-to-face solicitation of high-end annual gifts, overseeing the comprehensive schedule for direct mail and phon-a-thon solicitations; assisting with major gift, corporation, and foundation prospect qualification, solicitation, and cultivation; and supervising the Associate Director of Annual Giving. The candidate must possess excellent written and verbal skills, demonstrate attention to detail and accuracy, and be a flexible and adaptable team player who enjoys the challenge of setting and meeting goals.

The Eckerd College Campaign

Eckerd College recently made the public announcement of Many Experiences, One Spirit: The Campaign for Eckerd College. In the two and a half years of the Campaign’s advanced gift phase, Eckerd’s Advancement Staff raised $65 million, causing the College’s Board of Trustees to increase the fundraising goal to $80 million. The major initiatives of the public phase are a new Science facility, enhancing the College’s endowment and continuing annual operating support.
