Prospect Research

The Meliora Group partners with Blackbaud's Analytic Team to provide one of the powerful electronic screening tools to institutions who desire periodic screening of a dozen prospects, such as a new group of parents, or a batch of screening needed to analyze a large group such as a reunion cohort.

“Our preschool has a tremendous reputation in our community and a history of good will. For a variety of reasons, we never have had to conduct an organized fund-raising effort—until recently. Since we had no fund-raising history on our prospects, we needed to get an idea of their capability. The Meliora Group has helped us do precisely that, finding valuable information on 70% of our prospects.”

Cost Savings for Development Offices

The current generation of development officers has the ability to know much about donors. Yet, for smaller development shops, research can be costly in terms of the electronic resources, subscriptions needed and the staffing required to find information. Keeping donor files updated electronically also becomes a challenge for smaller offices.

The Meliora Group understands this dilemma and has designed a prospect research outsourcing service that allows institutions the advantage of having the most up-to-date research without all of the overhead costs associated with a research office. We will assist from the very beginning of identification of prospects and suspects through providing various levels of research, proposed moves and reporting, all part of moves management best practices.

We offer services ranging from electronic screening services to comprehensive research reports for the most promising prospects.

Comprehensive Research Profiles for Top Prospects

For situations where it has been determined that prospects may be approachable for large gifts or board membership, these profiles contain in-depth information to allow development offices to determine the best strategies for cultivation and solicitation.

Information includes a biography, details on their positions and companies, family members, real estate and stock holdings, philanthropy involvement including gifts made and important relationships such as board membership on foundations. The report also suggests appropriate giving levels for the prospect for annual and major gifts. These reports are typically several pages long and are written in a narrative style.
